Jacques and Peter grew up in the same area (Hackney, East London) and also went to the same secondary school and college. Both with a desire for giving back what they feel they would have benefited from whilst growing up in a deprived community...

Our Mission

Level Up Financial Education CIC is a social enterprise that equips young people aged 11-21 with practical money skills and confidence to make informed financial decisions and build better futures.

We asked one of the T Level construction students what he enjoyed about our full day program and what did he learn.

A full day incredibly well spent with T Level construction students focused on building strong financial foundations alongside their future careers in the industry.

We had the opportunity to spend the entire day together, breaking down key financial topics that will support them long after they step onto site. From understanding how to read and make sense of a payslip, to exploring how pensions work and why starting early matters, every session was about making money make sense.

We also covered the fundamentals of saving and investing, helping students see the difference between short-term habits and long-term wealth building. Alongside that, we had honest conversations about credit scores, how they’re built, and the impact they can have on future opportunities as well as practical strategies for managing debt responsibly.

It was great to see so much engagement, curiosity, and willingness to learn proving that financial education is just as important as technical skills.

Because in any career, especially in construction, earning is just the beginning understanding how to manage, grow, and protect your money is what really sets you up for the future.

At Woke Finance, closing the financial knowledge gap for young people is at the heart of what we do, particularly those from minority communities, are at the centre of our mission. This event brings that work into the room with some brilliant practitioners, researchers and changemakers who share that vision.

Together, we’ll be exploring:
🔹 The financial inclusion challenges facing young people across the UK
🔹 How education can build real financial confidence and capability
🔹 What more inclusive systems could look like and how we get there
🔹 Perspectives from those working directly with young people every day

This week we delivered a session for 12 young people ages 13-15 to learn about money and the mindsets when it comes to money. We looked at a few celebrities to uncover why they went bankrupt after making huge amounts of money. What did they do wrong? What can we learn from it?

We also looked at other celebrities who managed their money well! What did they do right? What can we learn from that?

The young people then had the opportunity to come up with their own investment or business idea. Dragons den style!

Amazing to see the young people demonstrate good reactive skills, research skills and long term thinking skills

We asked one the students in the session what did you like about the session or what did you learn.

He responded with

“I enjoyed how interactive and engaging the session was“

We asked the young person “what did you like about the session”

He mentioned learning about “Personal Investment”
The truth is that personal finance is often not taught at schools or at home, and one very seduce area of personal finance that MOST people don’t learn about is investing.

Most young people are not taught about

- why investing is important for the long term
- what are assets?
- what is a stock?
- How to start a business and finance that business

At @wokefinanceteam we introduce the young people to various areas of personal finance, from money mindsets and behaviours to opening bank accounts and understanding financial products, to understanding how to read your first pay slip, to savings, investing and building wealth.

As we wrap up this month, it was a pleasure to be invited back to CTK Emmanuel 6th form @elevateprogramme to run 2 sessions on Financial Literacy for the students.

At the age of 16 many young people start to earn their first income but no one explains to “how to read a pay slip”, “how taxes work”, “what is a pension”, “what are good and bad money mindsets”. That’s where Woke Finance comes in, to really fill that gap and to make sure that every young person has access to good quality financial education regardless of their background.

That time we partnered with PalaceForLife on their NCS program to provide a financial education workshop for the young people on the program 🙌🙌

It was a pleasure to work with Chelsea foundation to help bring financial education young people from age 15 and above.

In this activity we went through what a typical adults budget can look like.

Whilst the young people were aware that there was such a thing call Bills such as Gas & Electricity, they were shocked to find out that people had to pay for the right to watch TV.

We were privileged to work with @levelsabovetherest @levelsfc young people providing personal finance workshops.

We asked the young person, “how did you find today’s workshop?”

He enjoyed it because it was *Unique*, not something you expect when you join a football training academy and club. This shows Levels commitment to excellence and holistic development.

He also learned about the principle of *Trust* when it comes to money management. Who to trust and who to contact before making any big financial decisions.

We work with young people all around the UK, including the Midlands. Leicestershire welcomed us and a time was had!

We asked the young person “how did you find the session”

He said :
“He learned how to save up and invest”

In this session we taught the young people about the concept of “Instant Gratification” versus “Delayed Gratification”. Knowing how to both enjoy your money but also save some.

We also has an investment activity where the young people had to come up with an investment idea. It was amazing to see how entrepreneurial young people can be when given the opportunity and the idea of how investing can reap rewards.

From the ages of 16-18 young people start their preparation for adulthood. At this stage they may have already started to work part time, potentially preparing to go to university etc. For this reason we believe that it’s important for the young people to be financially educated and endowed with financial life skills.

We teach them:
- how to read their payslip
- awareness of debt & debt management tools
- understanding student loans
- how to budget effectively
- how to already start thinking about pensions and retirement.
- credit scores and home ownership
- saving and investing

We asked the young person @levelsabovetherest @levelsfc , “What was your view on the session today?”

He responded:

“I enjoyed the session”

“I learned the importance of having trust worthy people around me””

Many footballers have been scammed out of MILLIONS due to trusting the wrong person, the wrong financial advisor etc.

Thus, it is of the upmost person to discern who to trust. Whilst financial advisors are great, (such as our very own Jacques Opoku ACSI) we do encourage the young people to also be self educated. So that they can ask the right questions and make better informed decisions!

All young people should have access to good quality financial education regardless of their background or social class

After our session with @levelsfc @levelsabovetherest We asked one of young pupil, “What did you enjoy about the session and what did you learn?

He responded with :

“How to deal with money”
“Healthy Money Mindsets”
“Understanding the important of due diligence”

I think he’s going to do well financially, don’t you?

Choosing to Manage you money properly , and being responsible with money is often done when piling people “know their why”

The woke finance team has been busy this summer serving in the community. Last week the team put together a workshop for young people in Hackney Peabody (pictured Jacques Opoku and Peter Olawaye ). We would like to thank @abigailasante_ for her support in facilitating this important piece of work and service to the community.

The team continue to work with young people particularly those from underserved communities, teaching them about personal finance and having conversations about money with the young people that they don’t have in school, at home or anywhere for that matter.

Last week the Woke Finance CIC team were at @littleilfordyouthzonelbn delivering a workshop on personal finance covering the areas of money mindsets. The session also gave the young people the opportunity to discuss areas of finance and money that they may have heard about but needed clarity on. Subject areas such as ‘Social media influence’ and ‘trading’. We touched on various areas that they should be aware of such as financial crime, ponzi schemes and what ‘pump and dump’ actually means.

We continue the work this year working with young people and delivering workshops on financial matters we wish we were taught when we were younger.
